Sports notebook: Alowonle ranked fifth in nation
Park 2012 graduate and University of North Carolina sophomore R.J. Alowonle is ranked fifth in the nation in the 400-meter hurdles, according to a release from the school.
Alowonle, already an owner of four ACC championship titles, has a season-best time of 50.23 seconds in the 400 hurdles. The Tar Heels men are ranked 25th in the nation as a team in the latest U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association Division I National Team Computer Rankings. It’s the first time the UNC men’s team has been in the top 25 during the outdoor season since April 27, 2010, when it was No. 18. Alowonle won seven state championships during his prep career at Park and is considered one of the best Minnesota high school track and field athletes of all time.
