CGAA looking for basketball coaches
The Cottage Grove Athletic Association is now accepting applications for those seeking to coach a 2013-2014 traveling basketball team. Volunteer coaches will be selected from those who interview during the open coaches interview period. A coaches selection committee (appointed by the CGAA Traveling Director) will interview all coaching candidates. The selection committee will be made up of CGAA Basketball Board members and/or additional members appointed by the Traveling Director. Coaching candidates will submit an application and background check prior to their interview. Criteria for selection include the application, the background check, and the interview. Coaches will be selected based on experience, knowledge of the game, past involvement and positive attitude. Coach's applications should be submitted online by June 30. The online application can be found on the Traveling page of www.cottage grovebasketball.com. Interviews will be conducted in August. East Ridge free pole vault camp
East Ridge pole vault coach Mark Haesly is holding free pole vault camp at the East Ridge High School track, beginning June 17. Any student entering sixth grade and up can attend the camp, which is in its fourth year. Freshman who will be attending East Ridge this fall and are interested in pole vaulting next season are encouraged to attend. The camp is intended to teach beginners the fundamentals and safety of the sport. The camp will be held every Monday and Wednesday (weather permitting) from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. through July. East Ridge youth football camps June 17-20
Join the East Ridge varsity football staff and players the week of June 17-20 for some football skill building and fun. Youths from the local area will fine tune their football skills in this fun and exciting camp offered by the East Ridge Athletic Association. The philosophy of the clinic is to provide a sound foundation and refine the skills for all levels. A camp T-shirt, daily treats and prizes will be provided, but campers should bring a lunch each day. However, concessions will also be sold at lunch each day during the camp. East Ridge Athletic Association football registration now open
Register today for East Ridge Athletic Association Football. Youth from the local area will fine tune their skills during an exciting football season with the East Ridge Athletic Association Football (ERAAF) program. The season runs from early August through late October. Practice time and dates will be available closer to the start of the season. To participate in the football program, you must live in the East Ridge High School boundary area, played ERAA sports in the past, or obtain a waiver from the ERAAF Board prior to registering. Groupings are: Kindergarten Flag, First/Second Grade Flag and Third Grade through Eighth Grade Tackle. Register today through www.eraamn.com.
Second-annual 3-on-3 basketball league at Park High School
The Cottage Grove Athletic Association, in association with Midwest 3-on-3, will be hosting the second-annual 3-on-3 Basketball League this fall at the Park High School Activity Center. The league will run five Sunday evenings from Sept. 15 through Oct. 13. The league with have boy and girl divisions from fourth grade and lower through 10th grade. Teams will play two games per evening (10 total) and will receive team T-shirts. The league is a non-coached league and kids are encouraged to form their own teams and register. Last year the league had 103 teams in its first year and we are expecting more this year. Kids from Cottage Grove, Woodbury, Hastings, Hudson and other communities will be participating. This league offers an exciting, affordable opportunity to enhance individual and team skills. The smaller team size increases offensive and defensive opportunities for each player as well as encourages teamwork through basic fundamental team play (pick and rolls, give and go's, back-door cuts, etc. The intent of this program is to provide a fun, competitive learning environment for all players.
East Ridge boys and girls tennis camps
The East Ridge High School boys and girls tennis teams are offering a beginner and intermediate level week long youth tennis camp in June and July at the East Ridge tennis courts. A detailed explanation about these camps, as well as registration information, is available at www.raptortennis.com. All youth between the ages of 5-12 are welcome to participate. Second-annual Braedon Hyland Foundation Golf Benefit July 23
The second-annual Braedon Hyland Foundation Golf Benefit is scheduled for a 1 p.m. shotgun start at Prestwick on July 23. The tournament will serve two purposes - to raise money for the foundation, and to bring those that were touched by Braedon together for a celebration of his life. Braedon was a senior at East Ridge High School when he died in a car accident in October of 2011. He was loved by many and left an impact on the community. He was a superb multi-sport athlete, but he loved hockey most of all. His family as started the Braedon Hyland Foundation to allow kids to afford the fees to play hockey, when they otherwise could not afford to play. Tickets for golf/dinner, or dinner only can be purchased at www.braedon23.com. There will be music to follow dinner. Be advised to get your foursomes early. This event sold out fast last year.
Seventh annual Strawberry Fest 5K June 15
Don't miss the seventh annual Strawberry Fest 5K Race and Walk on June 15 at Kingston Park. Check in starts at 7 a.m., with the race beginning at 8 a.m. and the walk taking place immediately after the race. The cost for the race is $20 on or before June 12 or $25 after June 12. The cost for the walk is $15 on or before June 12 or $20 after June 12. All participants will receive a Strawberry Fest shirt, water and snacks upon completion. The race will be a tag timed event and medals will be awarded to the first place male and female. Race times will be posted on site immediately concluding the race and posted on our website by age categories the following Monday. Those participating in the walk will not be timed.
Strawberry Fest Kids 1 Mile Run June 15
The Strawberry Fest Kids 1 Mile Run will be held June 15 at Kingston Park. Registration for the run - for kids 10 and younger - begins at 9:30 a.m. with the race starting at 9:45 a.m. All participants will receive a 2013 Strawberry Fest shirt. Time will be kept on a clock. Cost is $12.
Cottage Grove skating school
Looking for a way to stay healthy and active this summer? Sign up for skating lessons at the Cottage Grove Ice Arena. The lessons are for all ages and abilities and take place year round at the arena. Unlike most sports which require special clothing and gear - all that's required is skates. The summer session of lessons is scheduled to start the week of June 13. All registrations received before June 6 will qualify for a 10 percent discount. Every lesson receives a free "Skate Saver" card ($40 value) to be used at any public skate time (excludes Team Lines). Community Education summer sports camps and clinics
The South Washington County Schools Community Education summer sports camps and clinics for boys and girls in kindergarten through 12th grade start soon. Camps and clinics include: Strength and conditioning, basketball, soccer, football, folf, tennis, dodgeball, cheerleading, dance and physical education games for elementary age kids. Various Skyhawks Sports Camps are also available. The camps are offered by varsity coaches at all three high schools in District 833, are a great opportunity to learn fundamental sport skills and make new lasting friendship and are held at area high schools and middle schools throughout the district. The camps and clinics begin June 10 and run through Aug. 9. The costs range from $20-$150 per session. Financial assistance is available, so contact for details. The registration deadline is based on the start date of the specific camp. Wolfpack basketball Skills Challenge 2013
Whether it's your first time picking up the "rock", or you're a fully seasoned varsity star, the Wolfpack Skills Challenge is the off-season program for all Wolfpack basketball players to improve shooting and ball handling skills. Players choosing to accept the challenge have three levels of achievement to shoot for (Cub, Wolfpack, and Pride in the Pack). Complete an age appropriate level of shooting and ball handling and be recognized for your dedication and success. You will become a better basketball player, get a T-shirt (different colors for Cub, Wolfpack, and Pride in the Pack), be recognized by the varsity coach in front of crowd at varsity games, listed in the newspaper, on social media, and on cottagegrovebasketball.com. Grades 1-8 must complete their goal by Sept. 30. Grades 9-12 must complete their goals by Oct. 30. The East Ridge High School girls basketball coaches are once again offering first class Elementary, Middle, and High School basketball camps for the girls of East Ridge.
