Cottage Grove 12 White softball team fundraiser

A brat or hamburger fundraiser will be held from 1-5 p.m. on Saturday, April 26, at Park Place Sports Bar, in St Paul Park to benefit the Cottage Grove Athletic Association’s 12 White traveling softball team. Tickets are $8 per person at the door. The team will also hold a silent auction and meat raffles.

East Metro Rugby Club forming teams for spring

The East Metro Rugby Club in the South Washington County School District is forming a boys and a girls team this spring. Rugby will be added to the 2016 Olympics schedule and is a true blend of strength, finesse, speed, and stamina. The ball is advanced by carrying as in football but only lateral passes allowed or can be kicked forward at any time with teams of 15 per side and 7 subs per match. Tackling results in possession turnover however no blocking is allowed. Play against some of the 20 Twin City High School teams in each league. East Ridge wrestling Bunny Hop 5K

Join the East Ridge wrestling team for the first annual Bunny Hop 5K and Easter Egg Hunt on Saturday, April 19, at Colby Lake Park. Egg Hunt (for kids 8 and under) will begin at 8:50 a.m. The 5K run will start at 9:15 a.m. To register, visit eastridgewrestling.com. Fee is $25 and t-shirt included (must be registered by April 8 to get a shirt). Awards given to top male and female finishers.

Second annual Standing Strong 5K Run/Walk on May 17

The second annual Standing Strong 5K Run/Walk will be held on Saturday, May 17, at Hamlet Park (8883 Hamlet Ave. S., Cottage Grove). The event is a cooperative effort between Cottage Grove Middle School, Oltman Middle School and the Cottage Grove Lions Club. The money raised at the event will go towards anti-bullying programs in both middle schools. Almost 200 runners and walkers participated in last year’s inaugural event, raising over $12,000. The registration fee is $25 in advance and $30 on race day. Registration opens at 7:30 a.m. the morning of the race, and the race begins at 9 a.m. More details about the event are available on the Standing Strong 5K website and preregistration is available online.

East Ridge K-5 girls basketball camp in June

East Ridge is holding a four-day basketball camp from Monday to Thursday, June 16-19 from 8:30-10:30 a.m., designed for girls entering Kindergarten - 5th grade next fall. Players will be grouped by age and ability, usually creating two or three age groups within the camp. Young players will learn valuable fundamental skills as well as the beginning steps of competition and teamwork. Many fun game-like competitive drills and skills contests will make this a fun four days of basketball. The camp will be led by the East Ridge girls basketball coaching staff. Players attending will receive an East Ridge basketball T-shirt. Register through the ERAA basketball website or through South Washington County Community Education.

East Ridge girls basketball open gym for grades 4-12

East Ridge High School is holding an open gym for girls basketball players in grades 4-12. This is a summer-long session that will provide an opportunity for players to get into the gym and work on basketball skills on their own. Supervision by the East Ridge staff will be on hand at all times to provide guidance for these sessions. The open gym will be Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays, June 17-July 31, from 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. The camp will not meet week of July 4.

East Ridge girls basketball summer shooting workouts

East Ridge is holding summer shooting and workouts for middle school-aged girls on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from June 10-July 31 from 12:30-1:30 p.m. The basketball shooting workouts are designed for East Ridge girls entering 6th, 7th, and 8th grades next fall and will consist of repetitive game shots from game spots at game speeds, along with the fundamentals of free throw shooting. The workouts will consist of various competitive game-like situations and will be led by the East Ridge girls basketball coaching staff. Players attending will receive an East Ridge basketball T-shirt.

East Ridge girls basketball summer shooting and team strategies camp

East Ridge is holding a girls basketball summer shooting and team strategies camp for girls entering grades 9-12 next fall. The camps will be held Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from June 10-July 31. The Tuesday camps, from 10:30-11:30 a.m., consist of repetitive game shots from game spots at game speeds, along with the fundamentals of free throw shooting. The Wednesday team strategies sessions, from 10:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m., will implement offensive and defensive strategies for the East Ridge girls basketball program in preparation for the 2014-2015 season. Workouts will be led by the East Ridge girls basketball coaching staff. Players attending will receive an East Ridge basketball T-shirt.

Football University Twin Cities camp at East Ridge June 27

Football University’s Twin Cities football camp will take place June 27-29 at East Ridge High School in Woodbury. Football University is an invitation-only, one-of-a-kind football training experience focusing on developing and enhancing the playmaking ability and skill of elite-level athletes in 6th to 11th grade. The training is provided by the NFL coaches and players. Although FBU does have an invitation-only policy, athletes are strongly encouraged to nominate themselves at http://www.footballuniversity.org.

Minnesota Ironman Bicycle Ride registration open now

The Minnesota Ironman Bicycle Ride will be returning to Washington County on Sunday, April 27, following a record-breaking year in 2013. Rider registration is open now at www.ironmanbikeride.org. A $10 discount for Early Bird registration is available through Feb. 28. The Minnesota Ironman Bicycle Ride is open to riders of all ages and abilities. Routes have been designed in roughly 15, 30, 60 and 100-mile increments to provide options for all cyclists. The Minnesota Ironman Bicycle Ride is the longest running organized bicycle ride in Minnesota and runs through the scenic St. Croix River Valley. Cost is $30 for Early Bird registration, $40 from March 1 to April 14 and $15 for youths 18 and under. Teams of eight or more earn a $5 discount per rider. The Minnesota Ironman Bicycle Ride has hosted over 100,000 cyclists in their 47-year history.
