Canadian Pacific is organizing this year’s big Holiday Train event in Cottage Grove, but the local Holiday Train Committee has already started its annual fundraising for the Friends in Need Food Shelf in St. Paul Park.
Committee members and others are selling $5 holiday bread loaves — blueberry or cranberry and walnut — at area churches. Also, the committee will be bagging groceries at Cub Foods in Cottage Grove from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 17, and taking donations for the food shelf.
The annual Holiday Train pancake breakfast fundraiser will be from 8 a.m. to noon on Sunday, Nov. 24, at St. Rita’s Catholic Church in Cottage Grove.
Committee leader Mary Slusser said the committee also will be selling a star ornament with a Holiday Train anniversary inscription. They will sell for $10 and there only are 200 available.
In past years the committee has organized the local Holiday Train visit in addition to raising money before the stop.
