South Washington County Weekend Planner: Craft fairs and more

It's craft fair weekend in South Washington County. For those who like to complete their holiday shopping early, crafts and antique items are available at multiple sites Saturday and Sunday. Boy Scout Troop 83 is holding a homeless night Saturday and will accept donations for Friends in Need Food shelf. On Sunday, stop by the American Legion in St. Paul Park for a breakfast buffet.

Local crafters and artisans will display their wares at the St. Luke Boutique, Friday and Saturday, Nov. 4-5, at St. Luke Lutheran Church, 70th Street and Hinton Avenue in Cottage Grove.

The boutique will be open from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday. Lunch will be available to purchase from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday and Saturday. Other activities will include antiques, a bake sale and homemade candies.

The 38th annual holiday craft fair and bazaar at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, 920 Holley Ave. in St. Paul Park will take place from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 5 and 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 6. In addition to crafts and bazaar items, there will be a bake sale, granny's attic, a pancake breakfast Sunday and lunch Saturday.

Saint Rita's Catholic Church in Cottage Grove is hosting its 42nd annual craft fair from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 5, at the church, 8694 80th St.

Exhibits will include crafts, a bake sale and a Sloppy Joe lunch. Admission is 50 cents for adults.

A fall rummage and bake sale will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 5, at Woodbury-Peaceful Grove United Methodist Church, 7465 Steepleview Road in Woodbury. Fall and winter clothing, household merchandise, books, children's clothing, accessories and toys will be sold. Refreshments and baked goods also will be available. All proceeds will help support church missions, including the "Imagine No Malaria" campaign.

Members of Boy Scout Troop 83 will spend one night this weekend sleeping in cardboard boxes to learn about homelessness. The Troop is hosting the 2011 Cardboard City from 4:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 5 to 9 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 6 on the grounds of St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, 920 Holley Ave. in St. Paul Park. As they learn about homelessness, troop members also will accept donations for Friends in Need Food Shelf.

The residents at Red Rock Manor, 1421 10th Ave. in Newport will hold a craft and bake sale from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 5. Lunch will be available for visitors.

The next breakfast buffet at American Legion Post 98 in St. Paul Park is scheduled from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 6, at the Legion hall, 328 Broadway Ave. Tickets are $7.50 for adults and $5.50 for kids, ages 4 to 10. Children, 3 and younger, eat free. Proceeds from the breakfast will be used for charitable programs sponsored by Post 98 Women's Auxiliary. Upcoming breakfasts are planned Dec. 4, Jan. 8, Feb. 5 and March 4.

The second annual Fall Craft and Bake Sale at Valley Crossing Community School is scheduled from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 5, at the school, 9900 Park Crossing in Woodbury. All are invited. More than 50 crafters will be available.
