West will tell businesswomen about the 'power of laughter'

Jenny West, Cottage Grove resident and community educator for FamilyMeans in Stillwater, will be the guest speaker at the Friday, Sept. 20, meeting of the Cottage Grove Area Women in Business. The meeting is scheduled from 7:45-9 a.m. at Norris Square Presbyterian Homes, 8200 Hadley Ave., in Cottage Grove.

West, who has a bachelor's degree in therapeutic recreation, will tell attendees that laughter affects human physiology by reducing pain, strengthening the immune system and decreasing stress. She will explain some simple tools to incorporate more laughter into your life.

Blood donors have a chance at $1,000 gift card

The Cottage Grove Area Chamber of Commerce Ambassador committee is holding a blood drive from 1-7 p.m. Monday, Sept. 9. The American Red Cross Blood Mobile will be parked in the parking lot of J&S Siding and Gutter, 8617 West Point Douglas Road, in Cottage Grove.

All donors will be eligible for a $5 Baker's Square gift card and a chance to win one of five $1,000 gift cards.

Donors must be 17 years or older, weigh 110 pounds, be in good general health and have a photo ID.

All-women volunteer teams filling

The Cottage Grove Area Women in Business is putting together all-women volunteer teams to help build a Habitat for Humanity multi-unit townhome complex in the Mississippi Dunes development in Cottage Grove, Thursday and Friday, Sept. 26-27.

Eight volunteers are needed to complete the Thursday team. The shift runs from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Donate blood, get haircut

Blood donors can get a free haircut this month.

People who donate blood or platelets at participating American Red Cross locations in September can receive a free haircut at a participating Sports Clips shop. The Cottage Grove Sports Clips is at 7240 East Point Douglas Road, Suite 140. Call 651-207-8381 for more information.
