Seven District 833 residents applied for an open seat on the South Washington County School Board.
The filing period ended Friday. The School Board will meet Thursday to select six candidates to interview. Those interviews, which are open to the public, will take place Thursday, June 12, at the District Service Center in Cottage Grove.
The board is appointing someone to take the place of Jim Gelbmann, who is stepping down mid-term. The new member will serve until December 2015.
District officials did not immediately release the names of the applicants, citing a state law that makes the names of applicants for an appointment private until they are considered to be finalists.
The board is scheduled to approve a resolution at its Thursday meeting to change that policy, which would make the applicants’ names and other information public.
