School District 833's 2012 property tax levy down slightly from this year

School District 833 will collect slightly less tax revenue from property owners next year than it did this year.

The School Board on Dec. 14 voted unanimously to set the district's 2012 tax levy at $53.42 million, down from a proposed levy of $53.58 million. The decrease in recent months was due to savings made by refinancing debt and by state education officials' different calculation on the refinanced debt, said Aaron Bushberger, District 833 finance director.

The 2011 levy was $53.69 million. Next year's levy will be nearly $268,000 less.

Local tax dollars are only a portion of the district's revenue. State aid, federal dollars and other funds also are part of the district's roughly $159 million in general fund revenue for the current school year.
