Refinery turnaround to wind down; contractors using Rush parking lot in Cottage Grove
Hundreds of contract workers are using the former Rush Nightclub parking lot along West Point Douglas Road as overflow parking during a large maintenance project at Northern Tier Energy's St. Paul Park refinery.
Contractors have been shuttled from the parking lot to the refinery daily for several weeks as they work on the oil facility's turnaround. It's thought to be the refinery's largest maintenance project in at least several years.
"This size turnaround is fairly unusual," said Anne Liming, the plant's human resources manager.
Liming said over the course of the turnaround close to 1,000 contractors will have worked on the project.
The turnaround will start winding down in the next few weeks, Liming said.
