Police use Taser on student, two to be charged after Wednesday fight at Park High School
Charges are pending for a pair of 17-year-old Park High School students after a Wednesday afternoon fight saw Cottage Grove Police called and one of the boys Tased by the school's resource officer.
The resource officer, a member of the Cottage Grove Police Department, used the Taser on the male student when he continued to throw punches at the other 17-year-old after the officer and an assistant principal stepped in to break up the fight, according to Cottage Grove Police.
Police were called to the high school at 8040 80th Street when the resource officer requested backup.
The student was warned repeatedly and told he would be Tased if he did not comply, said Capt. Pete Koerner, Deputy Director of Public Safety with the Cottage Grove Police Department.
He was then handcuffed and refused medical attention. The other student was taken into custody and transported to the Cottage Grove Police Department for further questioning.
The 17-year-old males, both from St. Paul Park, now await fifth-degree assault charges, according to police. The student who police Tased will also face a charge of obstructing the legal process.
