Park wrestling: Wolfpack second at Chisago Lakes

The Park wrestling team earned second place at the Chisago Lakes Legends Tournament on Friday, Jan. 24.

Park, which is ranked 15th in Class AAA, scored 189 points at the tournament to best Chisago Lakes (122 points) but finish behind Simley (239 points). Simley is ranked No. 1 in Class AA.

Park had three champions at the tournament and another four wrestlers take second place. In all, 11 Park wrestlers placed in the top four of their weight class.

Park sophomore Collin LaBrosse won the tournament at 120 pounds, senior David Giadyu won at 138 pounds and junior Steven Thongdysirisack won at 285 pounds.

LaBrosse (29-2) defeated Chisago Lakes junior Dylan Connell (26-4) with a 3-2 decision in the finals. LaBrosse was named the tournament’s Outstanding Wrestler with his win over Connell, an all-state wrestler who is ranked No. 2 in Class AA at 120 pounds. Giadyu (27-4) won 6-2 over Mahtomedi’s Devin Fitzpatrick (25-5) and Thongdysirisack (8-5) defeated Simley’s Rahshad Nixon (13-16) with a 53-second pin.

Park’s Jake Lanik finished in second place at 145 pounds, Noah Ijohma took second at 152 pounds, Cory Flaata was second at 170 pounds and Cody Linssen placed second at 220 pounds. Also, Sam Figlmiller and Austin Thurmes earned third place at 195 pounds and 126 pounds, respectively, and Daniel Duval and Devin Hubbard earned fourth at 132 and 182 pounds, respectively.

Park currently has four wrestlers ranked in the top 10 in Class AAA in their weight class.

LaBrosse is ranked fifth at 120 pounds, Giadyu is sixth at 138 pounds, Flaata is ninth at 160 pounds and Linssen is ranked third at 220 pounds.

Park was at White Bear Lake on Tuesday. The Wolfpack hosts a triangular against Eagan and Henry Sibley in Cottage Grove on Friday.
