Park wrestling: Linssen wins 100th career match as Wolfpack rolls

Park senior wrestler Cody Linssen recorded his 100th win as the Wolfpack went 2-0 in a home triangular on Friday, Feb. 7.

Linssen, who is ranked third at 220 pounds in Class AAA, earned a pin of his opponent from Wayzata in 1 minute 1 second. Also earning wins by pin in the match were Collin LaBrosse at 120 pounds, Austin Thurmes at 126 pounds, David Giadyu at 145 pounds, Jake Lanik at 152 pounds, Cory Flaata at 160 pounds and Justin Sabin at 285 pounds. Park won the match 42-38.

Park also beat Burnsville, 66-18, in the triangular.

In the win over the Blaze, Park’s Dan Ruiz won by forfeit at 113 pounds, LaBrosse won with a pin at 120, Thurmes won with a pin at 132 pounds, Daniel Duval won by fall at 138 pounds, Giadyu won a forfeit at 145 pounds, Lanik won a forfeit at 152 pounds, Flaata earned a pin at 170 pounds and Sam Figlmiller, Devan Hubbard and Linssen each won with forfeits.

Over the weekend, Park wrestlers earned honors while off the mat.

LaBrosse, a sophomore, Flaata, a junior, and Giadyu and Linssen, both seniors, each earned all-conference awards. Eighth grader Garrett Whitehead, and juniors Duval and Lanik each gained all-conference honorable mention.

In the Class AAA state rankings LaBrosse is ranked fifth at 120 pounds, Giadyu is ranked sixth at 138 pounds and Flaata is ranked 10th at 170 pounds.

Park now enters the postseason. The team portion of the Section 3AAA tournament will be held on Friday, Feb. 14, at Rosemount High School. Park is the fifth seed and will wrestle fourth-seeded Eagan. The winner will get a chance to go up against top-seeded Apple Valley, the No. 1-ranked team in the state. Wrestling begins at 4 p.m.

The Section 3AAA individual tournament is Feb. 21-22 at Eagan High School.
