Park track & field: Girls fourth in True Team meet; boys finish seventh
The Park girls track squad had a couple of individual first-place finishes en route to a fourth-place showing in the Section 2AAA True Team meet last week.
The boys team had a couple of second-place finishers as it placed seventh in the May 6 meet at St. Thomas Academy.
The East Ridge girls team finished first with 743.5 points, earning the Raptors a trip to the state True Team meet.
The Wolfpack girls earned a combined 488.5 points behind strong performances by runners Ally Gorres and Temi Ogunrinde, and discus thrower Hannah Schwartz.
Gorres finished first in the 100-meter dash with a time of 12.52 seconds.
Park took the top two spots in the 400-meter dash, with Gorres earning first with a 1:00.42. Temi Ogunrinde ran a 1:01.22, good for second place.
The two runners also had a strong finish in the 200-meter dash. Gorres took third in 26.46, while Ogunrinde clocked a 26.69 for fifth place.
Schwartz threw way beyond the competition in the discus. Her distance of 122 feet, 7 inches gave her an easy first-place finish, ahead of Woodbury’s Olivia Alston, who threw 95 feet, 2 inches.
Schwartz came in third in the shot put with a distance of 31 feet, 10 inches.
Park finished fourth in the girls 4x200 relay with a time of 1:54.16. East Ridge took first in 1:48.83.
The Wolfpack finished the 4x100 relay in 53.51, good for fourth place.
Katelyn Floysand earned a fifth-place finish in the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 49.04.
In the 800-meter run, Park’s Jaclyn Glazier finished sixth in 2:28.90.
Cameron Anderson finished fifth in the 3200-meter run in a time of 12:23.25.
McKenzie Greeder cleared 8 feet, 6 inches to finish sixth in the pole vault. She jumped 4 feet, 8 inches for sixth in the high jump.
For the boys team, Evan Bonneson and Ethan Berube had strong finishes in a couple of events.
Bonneson took second for Park in the 1600-meter run, finishing in 4:37.79, about six seconds behind first-place finisher Zack Benning of Hastings. Briar Tillery ran a seventh-place 4:49.76 for Park.
Berube had a second-place finish in the 800-meter run, recording a 2:02.75.
Park’s Michael Griffin and Elias Arlington each ran the 100-meter dash in 11.51 to finish in seventh and eighth place. Arlington finished sixth in the triple jump with a distance of 39 feet, 10.75 inches.
The 4x100 relay team took third place with a time of 45.88.
The Wolfpack 4x200 relay team finished sixth in 1:39.40.
