Park ROTC unit honored with award
The Air Force Junior ROTC unit at Park High School has been selected as one of 212 units nationally to receive this year's Outstanding Organization Award from the Air Force. News of the award was shared with the District 833 School Board and administrators at the May 20 board meeting.
The award recognizes units that have performed above expectations and distinguished themselves through outstanding service to their school and community while meeting the Air Force Junior ROTC mission of producing better citizens for America, according to the Air Force. The unit did 100,000 pushups as part of an Air Force health initiative, adopted a park, conducted a Veteran's Day celebration, performed 60 hours of community service for the Holiday Train, participated in four drill team competitions, performed 1,100 hours of community service and sent cards to serving military members, according to Master Sgt.
