Park High School student earns Eagle Scout award
Several years of dedication to the Boy Scouts came down to one final 8-hour project which awarded Park High School sophomore Richard Marsh his Eagle Scout, the organization’s highest honor.
In May 2013, Marsh, 16, and about 30 volunteers went to Afton State Park to do some cleaning.
“We decommissioned two trails, fixed one trail, fixed a campsite that was full of potholes and put another side on the latrine,” Marsh told the City Council last month. “That was all within about 8 hours.”
Cottage Grove Mayor Myron Bailey thanked Marsh for his continued service to the community and to Washington County.
As a member of Park’s Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps, Marsh is hoping to go into the Air Force after high school.
Marsh’s name will be placed on the wall of recognition at City Hall, alongside other south Washington County students who have completed either the Girl Scouts Gold award or Boy Scouts Eagle Scout award.
