Park girls soccer: Wolfpack’s season ends in shootout with Rosemount
Like last year, the season came to an end for the Park girls soccer team in a shootout loss in the section tournament.
In last year’s section final, Park — which was the No. 2 seed at the time — was denied its first trip to the state tournament in 20 years after top-seeded Eastview outscored the Wolfpack 3-1 in a shootout to earn a trip to state. The state champion in 1990, Park hasn’t reached a state tournament since 1992. Last year, Park didn’t allow a goal in its three section playoff games and allowed only 10 goals all season.
This year Park once again didn’t allow a goal in the playoffs, but was unable to advance to state.
Rosemount(10-6-2) went on to lose 3-1 to top-seeded Burnsville in the section semifinals. The Blaze, ranked No. 2 in Class AA, take on second-seeded Eastview in the final.
The Wolfpack allowed a mere seven goals on the year while amassing an 11-5 overall record. In 2011, Park allowed just five goals in its 16 regular season games – the fewest in all of Class AA during that season and a total thought to be the lowest in Park High School history. Park finished the year 5-4 in the Suburban East Conference this season, which was good fifth place.
With wins over intra-district and conference rivals East Ridge and Woodbury Park was ranked as high as eighth in the Class AA coaches poll this season.
The Wolfpack lose nine seniors from a very stacked lineup — Emma Waller, Katelyn Floysand, Jenna Swenson, Temi Ogunrinde, Sydney Wylie, Alissa Troje, Megan Palmer, Erin Diamond and Emily Burazin.
