Park girls lacrosse: Wolfpack beat White Bear Lake, improve to 4-1
A 10-9 win over Suburban East Conference foe White Bear Lake on Wednesday, April 23, improved the Park girls lacrosse team’s record to 4-1 to start the 2014 season.
Seniors Maddie Nelson and Emma Waller led the Wolfpack’s offense in the win over the Bears with three goals each. In addition, junior Bailey Aasen had a goal and an assist and juniors Laura Shrankler and Danielle Perry each had one goal. Park junior goalie Molly Haus made eight saves in the net to secure the win for the Wolfpack.
Park started the year with three straight non-conference wins – 11-7 over Rosemount, 18-3 over Rochester Mayo and 13-2 over Rochester John Marshall/Lourdes. The Wolfpack’s win streak was snapped, however, with a 10-7 loss to Cretin-Derham Hall in the first SEC game of the season on Monday, April 21.
In the loss to the Raiders, Aasen led the Wolfpack’s offense with two goals and two assists. Also, Nelson and Perry each scored twice and senior Mackenzie McWatters scored one goal. Haus made 12 stops in the losing effort.
On the year, Nelson leads the Wolfpack in scoring with 22 points on 18 goals and four assists. She had a season-high seven points twice — on five goals and two assists in the wins over Rochester John Marshall/Lourdes and Rosemount. Aasen is second on the team in scoring with 20 points on 14 goals and six assists. She had a season-high eight points on five goals and three assists in the win over Rochester John Marshall/Lourdes. Through five gams Haus has a .648 save percentage and 7.75 goals against average between the pipes.
Park was set to take on non-conference opponent Tartan on Tuesday, April 29, after the Bulletin went to print. Next, the Wolfpack will be at Roseville on Wednesday, April 30.
