Park cross country: Wolfpack takes strides at Dewey Minnaert meet
The usual suspects led the way for the Park boys and girls cross country team at the Dewey Minnaert Cross Country Invitational on Thursday, Sept. 5, at St. Croix Bluffs Regional Park in Hastings.
Park senior Evan Bonneson finished in ninth place overall, out of 99 runners, as the Wolfpack boys took 10th at the 11-team meet, while sophomore Cameron Anderson led the way for the girls team, which was seventh out of 12 teams, with her 14th place finish overall.
In the boys meet, Park scored 222 place points to finish ahead of Suburban East Conference foe Cretin-Derham Hall (266 points).
Bonneson led the way for Park with his time of 17:27.94 in the five-kilometer race.After Bonneson, freshman Scott Burazin was the next Wolfpack runner to cross the finish line, taking 32nd with a time of 18:32.55. The third fastest Park runner was junior Ryan Tolkinen, who took 48th with a time of 19:00.99. The fourth Wolfpack runner to finish was senior Connor Gabbert, who took 66th with a time of 19:21.67. Senior Kyle Mohr rounded out Park’s top five with a time of 21:24.37.The Red Wing boys finished first with 53 points, followed by second-place Woodbury with 101 points. River Falls’ Trenton Powell won the race with a time of 16:32.21.In the girls meet, Anderson was the Wolfpack’s frontrunner, taking 14th with a time of 15:48.45 in the four-kilometer run.Junior Rebekah Schulte was the second Park runner across the finish line, taking 22nd with a time of 16:15.38. Park sophomore Maddyson Jeske was the Wolfpack’s third fastest runner, taking 40th overall with a time of 17:15.12. Sophomore Taylor Rumpca and junior Bailey Aasen rounded out Park’s top five, taking 57th and 61st, respectively, with times of 17:56.76 and 18:14.12.In the girls meet, East Ridge had a five runners finish in the top 10 to edge Eagan, which was ranked the No. 2 team in the state entering the season. East Ridge, which was ranked fifth at the year’s start, totaled 29 place points. Eagan had 39 points. Third-place Eastview totaled 115 points.East Ridge senior Bailey Ness finished in first place with a time of 14:18.65.Next, the Park boys and girls are in Anoka for an invitational on Thursday, Sept. 12.
