Coming off a 1-1 performance at the season-opening Red Wing tournament, the Park basketball team suffered a lopsided loss in its home opener last week.

Park (1-2) fell to the Classic Suburban Conference’s Mahtomedi Zephyrs 74-31 on Wednesday, Nov. 27, in Cottage Grove.

Mahtomedi held Park to just 11 points in the first half, then exploded for 47 points in the second half in the win. Eleven different players scored for the Zephyrs in the win. Sean Hjelle had a game high 16 points.

Junior Mike Virnig had a team-high seven points for Park in the loss while senior Patrick Morrissey scored six points. 

Prior to the home opener, Park started the season with a 67-58 loss to Byron followed by a 48-43 win over Faribault on Nov. 22 and 23 at a tournament in Red Wing. Individual statistics from the games were not made available. 

Park took on North St. Paul on the road on Tuesday, Dec. 3, after the Bulletin went to print. Next, the Wolfpack tips off with South St. Paul on Friday in Cottage Grove.
