A portion of the old Highway 61 bridge over the Mississippi River in Hastings caught fire this morning. The fire was reported at about 10:45 a.m.

The fire began when a spark from a cutting torch ignited a rubber membrane on the bridge.

Crews working on the bridge were able to get the fire under control, but crews from the Hastings Fire Department were called to help make sure everything was under control.
