President Barack Obama will visit St. Paul Wednesday.

Obama plans to announce  "a new competition encouraging investments to create jobs and restore infrastructure as part of the President’s Year of Action," a Sunday White House announcement said.

The event is to begin in downtown St. Paul's Union Depot at 2 p.m. The public may get a limited number of tickets that will be handed out beginning Monday at 10 a.m. One ticket will be available per person on a first-come, first-served basis. Tickets will  free.

Doors open Wednesday at 11:30 a.m.

The White House did not announce any other stops for Obama.

The Union Depot reopened in late 2012 after a $274 million refurbishing. It will be hub for Amtrak passenger-rail service; buses from Megabus, Jefferson Lines and Metro Transit; and a light rail line. St. Paul officials hope the depot will help revitalize the city's downtown.

The president was last in town a year ago, when he talk about his plan to control guns, a plan that failed in Congress.
