Newport police reports for Sept. 6: Drugs, theft, loud party
Recent criminal activity reported in Newport:
An Otsego, Minn., man reported Aug. 26 that someone stole a guitar worth $1,500 and camera equipment valued at $2,300, along with other items, from a vehicle parked in the 1500 block of 11th Avenue.
Police received a report from a juvenile male on Aug. 26 that two bikes were stolen from a Century Avenue residence. One bike was valued at $365, the other $320.
A Newport man reported Aug. 26 that someone broke into the back of his truck and stole tools. There were no suspects.
Police were called twice to an apartment at 1624 10th Avenue on Aug. 23 for noise complaints, at 3:30 a.m. and 4:30 a.m. The female resident said they were partying. After the first warning, police told the woman she would be cited for a public nuisance. The woman was intoxicated and said she didn’t care, according to the report.
Police were called after 11 p.m. Aug. 23 to Boyd Motel, 1700 Hastings Ave., for a reported disturbance. Jesse James Gunn, 44, of Landfall, Minn., was intoxicated and behind the wheel of a running vehicle in the parking lot, according to the report. He had a blood-alcohol concentration of 0.18 and was arrested on suspicion of third-degree drunken driving.
Police and firefighters were called to Newport Elementary School, 851 Sixth Ave., on Aug. 20 for a reported fire. A juvenile started a small fire by the outdoor garbage area. It was extinguished.
A 36-year-old Newport man was transported by ambulance to Regions Hospital Aug. 21 for possibly overdosing on methadone. He was spotted acting strangely outside of John Bartle Hardware, 1688 Hastings Ave.
