Reported criminal activity in Newport:


Police were called to a Sixth Street home on Dec. 10 for a reported domestic. A juvenile male was accused of stealing marijuana from his mother and oxycodone from his father. The son denied stealing the drugs because he said he was on house arrest and probation.


An Oakdale woman reported Dec. 12 that she was assaulted by a man known to her during an incident two days earlier at a home in the 1000 block of Ford Road. The woman said she went to the man’s house to give him a gift and he grabbed her by the neck and shook her. Police were unable to contact the man.


A Newport man called police on Dec. 20 to request that two men be removed from his home in the 1500 block of 10th Avenue. The caller said he was having a party and the two men got into a physical altercation, but he did not want to discuss it further. The two men were gone when police arrived.

Attempted burglary

A Newport man reported Dec. 22 that someone damaged the door to a home in the 1900 block of Third Avenue. The frame and a new lock were damaged.


A Newport woman reported Dec. 10 that her friend, another Newport woman, stole oxycodone pills from her home in the 1400 block of 10th Avenue. The suspect admitted to police that she stole the pills because she was addicted and had relapsed. She said she stole about 60 pills and took them 10 at a time, according to the report. Formal criminal charges were pending.

A Newport man reported Dec. 11 that his Honda snowblower was stolen from his driveway in the 1600 block of 10th Avenue. Loss: $2,200.

Newport Auto Sales, 1390 Hastings Ave., reported Dec. 26 that someone stole five catalytic converters from vehicles in the business’s lot. The loss was estimated at over $1,000.

A Newport woman called police Dec. 31 to report that someone broke into her car in the 1400 block of 10th Avenue and stole a portable DVD player. There also was damage to the steering column.
