Newport police reports for April 10: Burglary, assault, theft, fire
Recently reported criminal activity:
Two Newport men reported March 26 that their home in the 1100 block of Mark Court had been burglarized. A TV, DVDs and two safes were stolen.
A 22-year-old Newport man was arrested on suspicion of assault following a domestic incident March 15 at a home in the 800 block of 12th Street. The man allegedly smashed his girlfriend’s cellphone during a fight.
Firefighters were called shortly before 7:30 p.m. March 22 to a fire near Raceway to Fun, 910 Hastings Ave. The brush fire was behind the business. There were no injuries.
A Newport woman reported March 27 that her vehicle was broken into and an iPod device was stolen in the 1700 block of Eighth Avenue.
A 24-year-old Menomonie, Wis., man was cited for fourth-degree drunken driving after a police officer watched him pull up to the SuperAmerica gas station, 1624 Hastings Ave., shortly before 4 a.m. March 28. The man got out of his car, tripped as he walked into the store and tripped again as he exited the store. Police stopped the man when he got into his car ready to leave. The man had a blood-alcohol concentration of 0.12, one-and-a-half times the 0.08 legal driving limit.
