Newport commissions need members

The city of Newport is seeking interested residents to serve on its Planning Commission and Heritage Preservation Commission.

There is one vacant seat on the Planning Commission and two vacant seats on the Heritage Preservation Commission.

Both commission terms are from Jan. 1, 2014 through Dec. 31, 2016.

The Planning Commission meets on the second Thursday of each month at 6 p.m. at City Hall. The role of the commission is to discuss and advise the City Council on issues relating to zoning ordinances and planning requests.

The Heritage Preservation Commission meets on the second Wednesday of each odd numbered month at 5:30 p.m. at City Hall. The role of the commission is to discuss all matters relating to historic preservation.

Newport residents interested in either positions are encouraged to submit a letter of interest to the City Council expressing so, including any special qualifications. Letters can be addressed to the Newport City Hall, 596 7th Avenue, or dropped off at City Hall. Letters will be accepted until 5 p.m., Thursday Dec. 19.
