New tenant secured for Famous Dave's site in Cottage Grove
More than a month after securing a new franchisee to take over the partially constructed Famous Dave’s location in Cottage Grove, the property owner has a new tenant.
City Administrator Ryan Schroeder said late last week that Shea Distributing has “been successful in finding a new tenant” and has plans to open in “a couple of months.” But it’s not clear it still will be the chain barbecue joint.
While Schroeder declined to comment if the new tenant intends to open a Famous Dave’s, he did confirm that a restaurant was slated to occupy the building.
“I’m not at liberty to say,” Schroeder said of the plans, adding that he will have a more solid idea of progress in the near future.
Representatives for Shea Distributing could not be reached for comment.
The building, located at 8479 East Point Douglas Road, was formerly a Kentucky Fried Chicken and earlier this year sat empty for months as former franchisee Dave Von Rueden worked through financial difficulties. He ultimately could not continue, forcing the property owner to shelve the project.
However, the on-again, off-again project showed new promise with the introduction of a new franchise last month.
The original Famous Dave’s plan included a 50- to 60-seat dining area, a drive-thru window and an outdoor smoker oven.
