New Life Academy girls basketball: Eagles’ season ends in Section 4AA semifinal

The season came to an end for the New Life Academy girls basketball team with a 74-39 loss to St. Croix Lutheran in the Section 4AA semifinals on March 11.

St. Croix Lutheran, ranked sixth in Class AA and the No. 1 seed in Section 4AA, opened up a 34-20 halftime lead on New Life, then ran away with the win with a 40-19 second half.

Senior forward Molly Saum led the way for the Eagles (17-11) in the loss with a team-high 10 points. Senior guard Jennie Scislow led the way for St. Croix Lutheran (24-4) with 15 points and five assists.

New Life played without leading scorer and rebounder Val Hohol, a junior center, who was sidelined with an ankle injury.

With the win, St. Croix Lutheran advanced to the finals, but was upset by third-seeded Minnehaha Academy (20-6) 43-30 in the championship game.

New Life must now say good-bye to five seniors – Saum, Raquel Goutierez, Aislinn Kavanagh, Emily Bolduan and Natalie Hager.
