New Life Academy girls basketball: Eagles earn big MCAA wins
The New Life Academy girls basketball team won a pair of Minnesota Christian Athletic Association games last week. The Eagles are currently second in the MCAA behind unbeaten Maranatha.
New Life (14-5; 9-1 MCAA) beat Bethany Academy 64-21 on the road Tuesday, Feb. 11, then took down Southwest Christian at home on Friday, Feb. 14.
New Life held Bethany Academy (2-18; 0-12 MCAA) to 11 points in the first half then outscored Bethany 41-10 in the second half in the lopsided win.
NLA junior center Valerie Hohol had a double-double in the victory with 14 points and 12 rebounds. Kara Stenerson scored 12 points and junior guard Sydney Steele netted 11 points for the Eagles as well.
Against Southwest Christian, New Life was down 27-25 at the half, but came back to beat the Stars (16-6; 7-5 MCAA) by one point, winning the second-half battle 29-26.
Hohol led the way for the Eagles with 17 points and seven rebounds. Senior forward Molly Saum and senior guard Emily Bolduan each netted 10 points for New Life as well.
The Eagles took on Lester Prairie/Holy Trinity (14-8; 9-2 MCAA) on Monday, Feb. 17, and St. Paul Humboldt (6-12; 4-6 St. Paul City) on Tuesday, Feb. 18, after the Bulletin went to print. Next, New Life travels to Minnehaha Academy (15-5; 10-2 Tri-Metro) on Thursday, Feb. 20.
