Myron Bailey Viewpoint: River Oaks is important community amenity
A Bulletin story published on May 29 ("River Oaks finances in the rough") may have raised some questions about the future of the River Oaks Golf Course in that we are currently conducting a review of our business operations. River Oaks is a highly rated and respected operation offering a quality facility with superior service at an affordable price to our community and other customers.
Golf Digest rated River Oaks as a 4.5 star facility (on a five point scale). A typical golf course within our market is rated at 3 to 3.5 stars. The Hackers Guide granted River Oaks its 13th highest score among 75 courses rated and also rated the course the third-best value in the Twin Cities.
The wedding venue at River Oaks was given a 5 star rating (out of five) and was selected as a Top Wedding Professional by The Knot, a wedding services rating entity. The Knot uses reviews written by brides when selecting their winners.
Approximately 35,000 rounds of golf are played each year at River Oaks. Almost 200 banquets are booked each year with 35 of those associated with golf tournaments.
As good stewards of our citizens' taxpayer dollars, we conduct business planning on a regular basis for our various business operations. We do this to ensure we are on the right track and to identify ways we can improve on what we do. The city's current review of River Oaks is being done to look for ways to continue to improve the facility for our customers and the community. Our goal is to improve our customer ratings and the customer experience.
River Oaks is an important amenity within Cottage Grove -- it's important as part of our recreational offerings and it's an important asset to our business community.
We are proud of River Oaks and all it adds to our community. Now in our 23rd year of operation we look forward to continuing to provide the high quality products and service our customers have come to expect from our excellent staff at River Oaks.
