And her knowledge and savvy business expertise has afforded her the opportunity to open up her own dog grooming business, My Dog Spot, which held a ribbon-cutting ceremony this week.

Located in the Shoppes at Almar Village, My Dog Spot is a roughly 3,700-square-foot haven for dogs in the area.

Daily first got her start grooming dogs 24 years ago after graduating from a specialized training program in Blaine. Since then, she has taken care of dogs at establishments in Hastings, Cottage Grove, Newport and St. Paul.

“I was fortunate to have worked with a lot of people that have excellent client and customer care qualities that have really rubbed off on me,” she said. “I have a close-knit set of clients that have followed me everywhere I’ve moved. I thought it was time for me to get my own place.”

Daily renovated the former Laurel’s Floral site, following its move to Hastings. She also bought the adjacent suite next to Bonngard’s Meats, which has been vacant for several years.

The smaller suite will be used as the main store front and will provide clients with dog supplies, including treats, food and accessories. The larger suite will be used as a puppy playroom.

My Dog Spot grooms all breeds of dogs, but the playroom is dedicated to pups up to 25 pounds.

“There really isn’t a good space for smaller dogs in the area,” she explained. “A lot of the places take any size dog. And sometimes the smaller dogs are afraid of the bigger dogs or vice versa. This is a place that the smaller dogs can have for themselves.”

The establishment will have three groomers on staff and at least one person to oversee the puppy playroom.

Renovations to the interior are still ongoing, but should be complete yet this month.

“We are excited every time a new business comes to down,” said Sherry Wilwert of the Cottage Grove Area Chamber of Commerce.

My Dog Spot is located at 7155 Jorgensen Lane, suite 110, in the Shoppes at Almar Village, in Cottage Grove. It is open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., Monday through Friday, and 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturdays.
