Minnesota news: Threats cause lockdown at Red Wing schools
RED WING, Minn. -- All Red Wing schools are on lockdown today after a student reported receiving a threatening call that alluded to a shooting at the school.
According to the Red Wing Police Department, a senior at Tower View Alternative Learning Center received a call Tuesday night from an unknown person who told her, "Your school is next." The girl responded with "Hello" and the person repeated the threat, "Your school is next."
The phone number did not show up on the girl's caller ID, but Police Chief Roger Pohlman said he is working with the county attorney to obtain a subpoena for the phone records to see if they will help with the investigation.
As a precautionary measure, all schools in the district are locking their external doors for the entire day.
"Classes are proceeding as scheduled, but students will be staying indoors throughout the school day," Superintendent. Karsten Anderson wrote in an email to parents this morning. "We are also working with local law enforcement to resolve the matter. We have safe schools in Red Wing, but we wanted to take this step as a precaution."
Red Wing is southeast of the Twin Cities along the Mississippi River.
