Man pleads guilty to DWI crash that injured East Ridge student
Edward Jaworski, of Mahtomedi, pleaded guilty Monday to two counts of criminal vehicular operation, one count of drunken driving and one count of driving after cancellation in Washington County District Court.
Jaworski was involved in an Aug. 22, 2010, crash at Valley Creek Road and Woodbury Drive that severely injured East Ridge High School student Sean Fitzpatrick. Two other teens, Woodbury High School students Paige Plunkett and Chelsea Vadnais, were also in a car with Fitzpatrick when it was struck from behind by a vehicle driven by Jaworski. Police estimated Jaworski was traveling 80 mph.
During a pre-trial hearing, Jaworski was given the option to either plead guilty or go to trial, County Attorney Pete Orput said.
"He straight up plead guilty to all counts," Orput said. "It went as we anticipated."
Jaworski registered a blood-alcohol content of 0.24 after the crash. That is three times the legal limit of 0.08.
Jaworski will be sentenced at 9 a.m. May 23 in Washington County District.
"It ain't over 'til it's over," Orput said.
