Man arrested in connection with Cottage Grove native Jamie Wylie's death
A St. Cloud man was jailed Thursday in central Minnesota on suspicion of murder in connection with the shooting death of Cottage Grove resident Jamie Wylie.
Travis McKinney, 25, was arrested Thursday on suspicion of second-degree murder and booked into the Benton County Jail, according to a jail employee.
Wylie, 31, went missing Dec. 9 after he left a friend’s house in St. Cloud. He did not have a car.
Wylie’s body was found March 25 on a roadside in Benton County, east of St. Cloud. An autopsy concluded he had died of homicidal violence by gunshot wound, authorities said.
Benton County Chief Deputy Troy Heck said in a statement that McKinney was arrested near Avon in Stearns County. The arrest was the result of an investigation by multiple law enforcement agencies.
Further information about the case and the arrest were not immediately available.
The St. Cloud Times reported that McKinney has a criminal history, with convictions including theft, drug possession and burglary.
In 2009, he pleaded guilty to a drive-by shooting, admitting he fired shots into a St. Cloud house in August 2008, according to the Times. He was sentenced to four years and 10 months in prison for the shooting.
Heck said the Wylie case remains active, and anyone with information about Wylie’s death is asked to call the Benton County Sheriff’s Office at (320) 968-7201 or the Tri-County Crime Stoppers at (800) 255-1301. Information also can be shared by texting TRITIP to 274637.
