Letter: Thankful for benefit, friends
The benefit for George held at the VFW Red Barn in Cottage Grove on Nov. 7 was beautiful. It turned out to be a great celebration with family and friends.
I wish to thank my daughters and niece for taking on the huge task of putting together such an event to raise money to help pay for my medical expenses after my craniotomy on Sept. 16. I also want to thank family and friends who helped by working at the benefit and providing items for the silent auction and bake sale.
I was amazed by the number of friends who attended. It was great to talk with everyone about how good life has been for all of us. For those who could not attend, thank you for your prayers and support. When I retired from Imation, one of my co-workers told me that what he learned from me was that there are still people out in the world who will go out of their way to help a friend. The people at Park High School and the Cottage Grove community have certainly proven that during my time of need.
It has been said that a person's real wealth is measured by the number of friends they have. My wealth is so much more because of the quality of friends that I have. I have been blessed with a wonderful family and friends and I hope that I too have provided some joy to them in their life. As a matter of fact, my daughter Elizabeth blessed me with a granddaughter on Nov. 6.
May God's blessings be with all of you during this holiday season. Peace and love be with all of you always.
Chavez Jr. lives in Cottage Grove.
