Kuemmel's Corner: Using Twitter and other technology
It seems everyone these days is on Twitter.
Park was one of the first high school athletic programs in the state to use Twitter, giving our fans the opportunity to follow Wolfpack athletics. I have always been a person that was somewhat up-to-date on the latest technology, but I must be honest, I never thought that I would join the latest Facebook, My Space, or Twitter phenomenon. However, I noticed that a lot of college athletic programs are using these sites as a way to keep fans connected to their teams.
Fans will be able to get real time scores, updates, and all of the latest information from the Park High School athletic department. I attend almost every home sporting event at Park, and I realize that parents, friends, or fans in the community cannot always attend these events. I will send a scoring update at halftime and then report a final score for each event that I attend. I will also post important announcements like registration dates for the winter and spring.
I like the Twitter site because fans can receive these updates as a text message on their phone (if they do not have a smart phone).
With all of the growing technology in today's society, this is just one more opportunity for fans across the country to stay connected to Wolfpack athletics.
Go to the Wolfpack Twitter website to sign up: http://twitter.com/parkwolfpack .
Also, a reminder that all Park schedules can be found at www.suburbaneast.org. The schedules found at this site are the exact real-time schedules used by our athletic office. Parents can sign up to be notified by e-mail of any changes made to a schedule for a particular sport. One second after I cancel a game, anyone who signs up to be notified will automatically receive an e-mail or text message letting them know that the game was canceled. Once that game is rescheduled, they will receive another notification. Directions to all away sites can also be found here, including maps. If a team is taking a bus to an away game, we also have the departure times listed for the bus. Parents can also click on "Go to Advanced View" to create a variety of printable reports for any combination of activities. If one child is playing volleyball and another plays football, this feature will give parents the chance to print a schedule with any variety of activities.
We are hoping that these websites will help parents and the community have better access to our schedules and the information needed to support our Wolfpack teams. I look forward to seeing everyone at the games.
