Kuemmel's Corner: Moran, Grosse Park's Triple 'A' Award winners
Park seniors Molly Moran and Nathan Grosse have been selected to represent the school in the Academics, Arts, and Athletics Award program for Region 3AA.
Established in 1988, the Triple “A” Award is sponsored by the Minnesota State High School League. The award goes to high school seniors who have a “B” or better grade point average and who participate in League-sponsored athletic and fine arts activities.
Park’s female recipient this year is Molly Moran. Molly participated in cross country since seventh grade. She sang in the choir her junior and senior years and earned all-state honors. Ms. Moran has been a state tournament participant in speech her sophomore (finishing 11th) and junior (finishing 8th) years and also participated in the one-act play this year. She is the director of the Park News Network morning announcements, has taken many IB and AP courses, and has a GPA of 3.5. Next year Molly plans to attend Gustavus Alpolphus and be involved in both theater and speech.
Nathan Grosse ran cross-country at Park for four years. He has also been involved in choir and visual arts. Nathan is a member of the school’s math team, Link Crew, an anchor on the Park News Network morning announcements, and started a barbershop quartet at the school. He is a full IB diploma candidate and has a GPA of 4.2. Grosse volunteers for Youth Teaching Youth and plans to study elementary education next year at UW-River Falls.
A region committee will select one male and one female student to represent Region 3AA at the state level competition. MSHSL officials will then announce the four award recipients (a girl and a boy from both a Class “A” and Class “AA” school) at an on-court recognition ceremony held in March. Each award recipient will receive a four-year $1,000 scholarship.
Congratulations to Molly and Nathan, who are the epitome of a Park student-athlete: excelling in the arts, academics and athletics.
