This week marks my last edition of Kuemmel's Corner for the school year.

I have really enjoyed this year on the job as Park's Activities Director. I had the opportunity to meet and work with many great students-athletes, coaches and parents.

The highlight of the school year for me was our gymnastics team's fourth place finish at state and the section runner-up finishes for both our girls soccer and basketball teams. Other highlights include the number of students that signed letters of intent to continue their athletic careers in college, and recognition for two outstanding coaches - Greg Juba's 300th career win in girls soccer and Mark Sikich retiring after 21 years as our head gymnastics coach.

Many people have asked me what kind of work I need to do in the summer when there are no games or events to attend. There are many things I must do to wrap up this school year and prepare for next year. The biggest task is ordering all of the supplies, equipment, and uniforms that will be needed for next year. I also have to make sure all schedules are set for next year and reserve all of the facilities we will need. I am always looking at what we can do to improve the experience for all of our student-athletes.

I have had a chance to check in on coaches and athletes at their summer camps and clinics. I am also busy getting ready for next fall's Hall of Fame induction ceremony. Finally, my secretary and I have been busy preparing for fall registration, which will be here before you know it. Registration information and materials can be found on Park's website - just click on Athletics (or look in the Sports Briefs in The Bulletin for details).

My final thank you of the year goes out to Patrick Johnson, The Bulletin sports reporter, for all that he has done to promote our sports this year. I appreciate the opportunity The Bulletin has given me to write this column. I have really enjoyed writing it each week and I appreciate all of the positive feedback I have received. If anyone has ideas for topics for next year's column, feel free to e-mail me.

I hope everyone has a great summer and I will see you in the fall.
