Krueger takes the reins with gusto
Newport Elementary School Building Coordinator Donna Romaniski said her new boss is "very energetic," and the new principal, Aaron Krueger, agrees.
"I like to get things done," he said.
Krueger, who was an assistant principal at St. Francis Elementary School in St. Francis, Minn., said he is impressed with the district and the principals he has met.
He has also met parents who have stopped by the school and the school's booth at Pioneer Day.
"I'm excited to be here," he said. "I plan on being here for a long time."
Krueger, 34, is taking over for Mike Moore, who is the new principal at Liberty Ridge Elementary School in Woodbury.
Though his mother was a teacher for 35 years, Krueger didn't start his college career with the intention of going into education.
He started at the University of Minnesota in pre-business.
Krueger also coached sports for kids and got a job as a paraprofessional in special education.
That experience "sealed the deal" for changing his life path to become a physical education specialist. "It was in me more than I was willing to acknowledge," he said.
Going on to earn a master's degree in education, he got interested in school administration and went beyond to become educated in the field.
"It's what I was meant to do," Krueger said.
He chose to become a principal because, instead of getting to know a single classroom of kids, he's now involved with an entire school.
"Kids, I love them," he said.
Hoping to inspire Newport students to read more, Krueger enjoys reading mysteries and adventure novels.
He plans to have an entire day of reading at the school to coincide with the celebration of Dr. Seuss's birthday in February.
He met State Sen. Katie Sieben and State Rep. Karla Bigham at Pioneer Day and has already recruited them to read to students.
"I want to make this school feel like a special place for parents and students," he said. "This is a valued place and family of learners."
Krueger lives in East Bethel with his wife, Jill, and two daughters, Madison and Myah.
