Never mind the leftover Thanksgiving turkey. For local boys and girls, the most important meal of the season is Breakfast with Santa.

The annual event, which was held Sunday at the Cottage Grove VFW Post 8752, provides a crucial chance for a sit-down with the man in the red suit. Sure, Santa knows all the wishes of all children around the world, but why take a chance?

Among those lining up were Trey Jaso, 6, and his brother Tyler, 9, of Cottage Grove. Camera phones were more numerous than candy canes: Chris Rodenberg snapped a photo of nephew Quenton Morgan, 8, as he consulted with Santa on gift options.

A skateboard was one of several items on a list that was submitted to Santa by Brandon Groess, 7, of Cottage Grove. Henry Soucheray, 2, asked Santa for a soccer ball, said his mother, Tess. Addison Hoover, 1, wore her best red Christmas dress. She had no comment when asked exactly what she and Santa talked about, but hinted that the talks were productive.

Santa is busy at the North Pole, so Gary Spooner, better known as Santa Gary, stepped into Santa’s big black boots to preside over the ho-ho-hoedown.
