Those who aren't familiar with the world of singing may ask, "Who is Anthony Kearns?" For Kathleen Kullmann, a Cottage Grove resident and Kearns fan, it's an easy question to answer. "Just listen to him sing. He has a phenomenal voice," she said last week.

Kearns and accompanist Patrick Healy will perform in concert at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church in St. Paul Park at 4 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 18.

Kullman, who spends most of her spare time playing clarinet in at least three metro-area orchestras or bands, met Kearns and Healy at one of their concerts and became friends. "Most of the concerts have a reception afterward during which attendees can meet and talk with both men," Kullmann said.

When the St. Thomas music director Robin Medrud asked Kullmann to invite Kearns to Minnesota, Kullmann did and Kearns accepted. The St. Thomas concert will be the last of a six-site tour in the United States for Kearns in 2009.

Billed as "Ireland's Greatest Living Tenor," Kearns is known around the world for "his satin-smooth voice, tremendous vocal range and technique." He is a founding member of The Irish Tenors, sings opera and light classical works and is especially known for his large repertoire of Irish music, according to a press release.

Tickets are $25, $50 and $100. The $100 ticket includes dinner and a reception with Kearns at Tinucci's Restaurant in Newport. For details, call the church office at (651) 450-2131 or go to www.st.thomas-aquinas.com.

Healy, an expert on Gilbert & Sullivan, has visited south Washington County twice in the past, Kullmann said. "He has worked with the Woodbury Community Theatre and has been asked to participate in the upcoming opening of the Loft Theatre at East Ridge High School," according to Kullmann. "He was thrilled when I asked him. He feels like family now and opening the new theater is a very big deal."
