Hydrant flushing begins in Cottage Grove, St. Paul Park
The spring thaw has begun throughout south Washington County and residents in Cottage Grove and St. Paul Park should be aware of upcoming hydrant flushing schedules.
The city of Cottage Grove began flushing neighborhood hydrants on Monday, April 14.
Crews are currently flushing zone 1, which are hydrants located in the northwest part of the city. Flushing in each of the city’s four zones can take up to two days to complete.
Meanwhile, St. Paul Park residents can expect crews to be on the streets flushing hydrants beginning May 5.
Crews will be active in St. Paul Park between the hours of 7 a.m. and 3:30 p.m.
Flushing of hydrants may cause discolored or rusty water in residential and commercial faucets. Low water pressure is also common.
This can be corrected by running cold water until it clears or for about 10 minutes.
Fire hydrants are flushed twice a year — spring and fall — and insure that the lines are clear and to maintain proper water pressure.
