Holiday Train stop cancelled
The Canadian Pacific Railway's Holiday Train will not stop in Cottage Grove Saturday evening because of the winter storm.
The train was to stop in Cottage Grove from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., but the Holiday Train Committee cancelled the event Saturday afternoon as snow continued to fall and high winds created poor driving conditions and safety concerns.
The Holiday Train continued its route into St. Paul and was to slow, but not stop, as it passed through Cottage Grove.
Mayor Myron Bailey told Holiday Train Committee members that it is "too risky to do this in these conditions."
Bailey said police reserve officers could not make it in for work, roads were impassable and snow "is over the tops of the plows."
"We could be putting people's lives in danger," he wrote in an e-mail to the committee.
The Holiday Train stop is the biggest fundraiser for the Friends in Need Food Shelf in St. Paul Park. Funds were raised for the food shelf, even though the Saturday event was cancelled.
