Holiday Inn hopes to open in one year
Economic Development Authority members discussed last week a proposed 87-room Holiday Inn Express located off Hardwood Avenue that would open a year from now if the project proceeds on schedule.
Rock Creek Designers and Builders, LLC, has put forward a preliminary plan to construct the lodging on a 1.7-acre site adjacent to Oakwood Park and Ruby Tuesday. The Holiday Inn Express would be a four-story, flat-roofed structure that "fits in with the character of this development," said director of community development Howard Blin.
It would require the city to sell its stake and rezone the planned location, approve a conditional use permit to allow hotel use there and OK a final site plan for the project.
Review of the hotel project by the city's planning commission is tentatively scheduled for March 24; City Council action would come in April.
"This has a ways to go through the review (and) design process," Blin said.
