Gymnastics: Park’s Schank 22nd at state meet, East Ridge's Trollen, Anderson in top 10
A year after just missing out on a top-10 finish at state, Park junior Sarah Schank settled for a 22nd-place finish in the all-around on Saturday at the Class AA state gymnastics meet at the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis.
“She had some mistakes on vault and bars, but the competition was higher than last year,” Wolfpack co-head coach Krissie Thrush said. “She was a little disappointed with the way it ended.”
Schank, who earned a medal last season on the balance beam, placed 17th in the balance beam with a score of 9.225.
Schank’s all-around score of 36.7 points came just shy of her mark of 37.125 of last year. Schank placed 31st in the vault with an 8.85, 17th in the uneven bars with 9.075 and finished 11th in the floor exercise with 9.6 points.
“She was more comfortable, but I think she kind of put a little more pressure on herself because she knew if she went out there and competed she could medal,” Thrush said.
Schank exceeded her floor exercise score from a year ago by a wide margin. A year ago Schank scored 9.375.
East Ridge got two top-10 performances in all-around Saturday at the Class AA state gymnastics meet with sophomores Wren Anderson and Megan Trollen.
Anderson placed seventh in all-around with a score of 38.0125. Anderson scored a 9.6 in the vault, a 9.325 in the uneven bars, 9.45 on the balance beam and 9.625 in the floor exercise.
Trollen placed ninth overall in all-around with a 37.4625, scoring 9.425 on the vault, 9.375 on the uneven bars, 9.15 on the balance beam and 9.55 in floor exercise.
Sophomore Taryn Johnson placed 17th overall in the vault with a score of 9.4375.
