Grand jury set to review cop-involved shootings
A grand jury will convene this week in Washington County District Court to review police-involved shootings in Cottage Grove and Woodbury.
County Attorney Doug Johnson said the jury will review a case involving Cottage Grove officer Brad Peterson, who shot and killed a suspect as the man dragged Peterson in an attempt to flee police in the early morning hours of March 30.
The grand jury will also review the actions of Woodbury Sgt. Omar Maklad, who authorities say shot and killed a man after he was fired upon while responding to a domestic disturbance call April 15.
The grand jury is scheduled for Friday, June 25 and June 28-30, depending on the time required. Some witnesses will be called in each case, Johnson said.
The proceedings are closed to the public.
