Gorres is state-bound in 100-meter dash
Sophomore Ally Gorres will represent Park’s track and field squad this week when she heads to Hamline University for the state meet on Friday.
Gorres qualified for state by taking second in the finals of the 100-meter dash with a time of 12.64 seconds at the Section 3AA meet at the University of St. Thomas last week.
Gorres, Park’s star sprinter, finished fifth in the 200-meter dash with a time of 25.88 seconds later on in the meet, just .22 seconds off of the state-standard time which would have qualified her for state in that event as well.
Senior Temi Ogunrinde flashed her versatility throughout her final high school meet. Ogunrinde qualified for the finals in every event she was entered into, finishing fourth in the 200-meter dash, sixth in the 400-meter dash, fourth in the triple jump and served as the second leg on a Park 4x100-meter relay that finished fourth.
Highlighting the boy’s sectional performance was senior distance runner Evan Bonneson. Bonneson finished fourth in the 1600-meter run with a time of 4:30.73, less than three seconds out of second place. He tacked on a fifth-place performance in the 3200-meter run, which he finished in 9:54.90.
Also performing well on the boy’s squad was senior Elias Arlington, who qualified for the finals in both the long jump and the triple jump. He placed seventh in each event.
