Cross-town rival basketball teams from Park and East Ridge tip-off tonight in Cottage Grove in the two teams' first head-to-head meeting of the year.
Both squads have had dramatically different seasons, however, anything can happen.
East Ridge is 12-3 overall and 6-2 in the Suburban East Conference, good for second place. Park is 2-13 and 0-8 in the SEC, which has them in last place. The Wolfpack has a 66-game losing streak in the SEC, dating back to Feb. 20, 2009.
East Ridge holds a 6-0 advantage over Park in the all-time series.
Against East Ridge, Park will hope to fare better than it did against its other intra-district rival, Woodbury, which beat the Wolfpack by 47 points on Tuesday.
East Ridge is also coming off a loss, 68-60 to Stillwater on Tuesday.
Both teams possess youthful rosters.
Park has just one senior on the team, forward Mike Broskoff, along with eight juniors and five sophomores. Just two seniors play for East Ridge, which has 10 juniors, four sophomores and one freshman on the team.
East Ridge has a good, young backcourt, a big frontcourt and talented wing players. The Raptors' leading scorer is sophomore point guard Sid Tomes, who scores 13.3 points per game. Tomes' backcourt mate is junior Jake Knupp, who leads the team's top 3-point shooter and scores 10.2 points per game. Senior 6-foot, 7-inch center Conrad Sexe (10.9 points per game) and junior 6-foot, 9-inch center Ryan Keenan (5.6 points) roam the paint. In addition, junior forwards Brian Ishola (11.8 points), Xavier Cole (9.9 points) and Ryan Mathis (5.6 points) bring multifaceted inside-outside games.
Key players for Park include junior guard Sully Brenke - who leads the team in scoring at 7.3 points per game, junior guard Ryan Klika (6.8 points), sophomore forward Aaron Gorres (6.8 points), sophomore guard Anthony Juba (5.5 points) and sophomore forwards Kaleb Fischer (5.0 points) and Connor Kvendru (4.8 points).
Tip-off is set for 7:15 p.m. at Park High School.
