Final plans for new Cottage Grove City Hall OK'd; open house next week
Construction of a new city hall and public safety facility will be opened to bids after the Cottage Grove City Council recently approved final plans and specifications for the $16 million project.
The city council OK'd by a 4-0 vote the plans for a 67,000 square-foot building to be constructed near Ravine Parkway and county Highway 19 during a special meeting held at Cottage Grove City Hall Friday evening. Council member Derrick Lehrke abstained from the vote authorizing the bidding process.
A refined estimate based on the detailed construction plans puts the project cost at $16.2 million, roughly $200,000 more than a previous estimate from project designer Wold Architects and Engineers but well below the approved $17 million project budget.
Cottage Grove will use the best practice bidding process, a tool that rates bids from contractors on more criteria than which submits the cheapest bid.
Officials are scheduled to award the bid for the project at a meeting on Aug. 17 and give notice to break ground on Sept. 7.
The new Cottage Grove City Hall is scheduled to open in the fall of 2012. A public open house on the project will be held on July 7 at 6 p.m. at the current Cottage Grove City Hall, 7516 80th St.
