The loss of 12 seniors left Park High School's boys swimming and diving team exposed to the elements -- especially the diving team, which was used to the spotlight after toting now-graduated state divers Jon Boese and Matt Leidecker.

But the Wolfpack's arsenal turned out to be not-so-depleted after all.

Diver Bryce Johnson, an all-conference honorable mention recipient in 2005-06, and his pack of Park divers picked up right where their predecessors left off.

After taking second-place in diving with 284 points at the Woodbury Invitational Dec. 16, Johnson cruised to a first-place finish of 177.65 points in Park's 103-72 win over Tartan Dec. 19.

"It was nice to swim against a team that used to be in our old conference," Park swim coach Charlie Cauthorn said. "It shows that the team has some strength we didn't have last year."

Park (1-1 in duals) claimed first, second and third place in diving, carrying the team to a victory that was all but claimed after the first two events.

The Wolfpack's team of Zach Elliott, Tim

Leidecker, Blake Lemire and Mark Jackson won the 200 Medley Relay in 1 minute, 56.71 seconds, followed by another pack of Park swimmers -- Justin Henseler, Justin Kong, Tom Phillips and Mike Thielen, who took second place.

The first event victory put Park in the lead 12-2, and the Wolfpack swimmers never looked back.

With only the 100 free between his events, Lemire took second place in the 100 butterfly in 1:02.63, then won the 500 free moments later in 5:46.19.

Kyle Lewis won the 200 freestyle in 1:59.40 and led the Wolfpack in the 100 free with a second-place finish of 54.19 seconds.

Phillips was first in 200 IM with 2:27.14 and Elliott won the 100 backstroke in 1:06.18.

In the first half of the season, the Wolfpack lost its first dual 100-81 to Forest Lake and took sixth and seventh place, respectively, at the Woodbury Invitational and Suburban East Conference relays in Stillwater.

Its next meet will be a dual against fellow SEC team Hastings tomorrow, Jan. 4, at 6 p.m. at Cottage Grove Junior High.
