East Ridge senior Reid Lyden made his way through a difficult field to finish fourth Dec. 28 at the Rumble on the Red tournament in Fargo, N.D.


Lyden beat Worthington’s Anthony Luft, a defending state champion in Class AA, 2-1 in a tiebreaker to reach the third-place match. There, Lyden fell to Cambridge-Isanti’s Travis Swanson 8-1 to finish fourth. Lyden lost to Foley’s Tyler Funk, last year’s runner-up to Luft, 12-0 in the quarterfinals.

Lyden finished 6-2 overall for the tournament, including a 7-5 victory over Woodbury’s Ty Johnson in the second round.

Ryan Thompson, Nate Tigges and JoJo Garica all reached the second day of the tournament, but did not place.

Jimmy Vitt and Carson Lesher reached Saturday in the junior varsity tournament with Vitt taking second place at 182 pounds.

After the Rumble on the Red, East Ridge sent six wrestlers to the Hopkins Invite Saturday and all six Raptors earned at least a top-four placing to finish fourth at the 12-team meet.

Tigges and Lyden each won their brackets, Tigges at 182 pounds and Lyden at 132 pounds.

Ryan Thompson at 113 pounds and Carson Lesher at 126 pounds finished second while Garcia earned a third-place finish at 285 and Josh Stensgard placed fourth at 138 pounds.

Also, the Raptors lost 51-21 to Forest Lake on Thursday at East Ridge High School. Individual results from the match were not made available.

Next, East Ridge takes on Suburban East Conference rivals Park and Woodbury in the District 833 championship triangular on Thursday at Woodbury High School.
